Last Chance For
Specs & Snows
by Jerry Springer

With just two weeks of waterfowl season left, you still have a chance to book a goose hunt just north of Williams with Clyde Baker on the Clyde Baker Ranch.

Baker shoots 7 days a week out of sunken blinds located in rice fields west of Interstate 5 just across from the Sacramento Refuge. On this side of I-5 you can still shoot specs. A lot of them were seen last week but the weather was so nice the geese were sky high. With a change in the weather coming, the shooting should improve. In addition to specs, you will also have a chance at snows, and under the right conditions you can knock down some of the ducks that will come flying over the decoys.

It's an easy walk to the blinds from where you park your vehicle, but a ride is available on a 4-wheeler if you need one. Also, waders are not needed to get to the blinds.

Baker charges $100 a day per hunter and if it turns out to be a bad day for hunters and a great day for the waterfowl — meaning none of his hunters even fires a shot — he will rebook them for a different hunt day at no charge.

By the way, if you don't know how to call geese, don't worry as Baker will do all the calling for you and his black lab will pick up the birds you knock down.
