Todd Reichert of Onalaska, Washington was the lucky bidder for one of two Grizzly Island tule elk tags auctioned at fund-raisers held during 1999.

In camp for his hunt were volunteers from the California Deer Association and the Mule Deer Foundation along with well-known elk hunter and outdoor writer Jim Zumbo. Zumbo was on assignment for Outdoor Life magazine.

Reichert took his bull at 9 a.m. using a .338 Browning. The bull was 214 yards away. It weighed in at 825 pounds and scored 333 1/8 B&C.
