Lake Sonoma Hunts
Wild pig and turkey hunts will be offered at Lake Sonoma, California during the 2000-2001 hunting season. The 26 wild pig hunts will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from November 7, 2000 through March 27, 2001. In addition, four two-day wild turkey hunts will be offered; one junior and one adult hunt this fall, and one junior and one adult hunt this coming spring. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is providing these hunting opportunities in cooperation with the Department of Fish and Game.

Wild Pig Hunt Success: 1999-2000 pig hunter success decreased from 1998-99 ( 8%) to 4% with an addition of almost twice as many hunters. Overall, 703 hunters (489) took 28 (43) pigs for an overall success rate of 4%. Some 244 (162) archers took 2 (3) wild pigs for a success rate of 0.8% (1.9%), 185 (227) shotgun-slug hunters took 14 (15) wild pigs for a success rate of 7.6% ( 6.6%), and 60 (111) rifle hunters took 12 (7) wild pigs for a success rate of 20% (21%). The 2000-2001 season success rate is expected to be about the same as last year.

Hunt Periods: The 26 wild pig hunts are divided into two hunt periods. The first period contains 10 archery hunts (Area 1, Tuesdays) and 3 rifle hunts (Area 2, Wednesdays) and runs from November 7, 2000 to January 10, 2001. The second period has 11 shotgun-slug hunts (Area 1, Tuesdays) and 2 rifle hunts (Area 2, Wednesdays) and runs from January 16, 2001 to March 27, 2001.

Permits: Hunting permits are required. Fifteen permits will be drawn for each hunt date. Each permit is good for two (2) hunters. Applications: Applicants may apply for only one hunt in each hunt period. Drawings: Only two drawings will be held, one for each hunt period. The first period drawing will be held October 6, 2000. Applications must be received in the Yountville Regional Office by 5 p.m. on October 5, 2000. The second period drawing will be held on December 15, 2000. Applications must be received in the Yountville Regional Office by 5 p.m. on December 14, 2000. Only successful applicants will be notified.

TURKEY HUNTS

There are four, 2-day turkey hunts scheduled for the 2000-2001 season. Two hunts are scheduled for the fall of 2000, and two hunts for the spring of 2001. Ten hunters will be drawn for each hunt, and each hunter can take one (1) hunting guest. Junior hunters must possess a junior hunting license, and can take either another licensed junior hunter or an adult hunter.

Fall 2000 Turkey Hunts

Area 1: Junior Hunt: Saturday/Sunday, November 11 and 12, 2000
Area 2: Adult Hunt: Saturday/Sunday, November 18 and 19, 2000

Drawing: All applications must be received in the Yountville Regional Office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2000. The drawing will be held on Friday, October 13, 2000.

Spring 2000 Turkey Hunts

Area 1: Adult Hunt: Saturday/Sunday, March 31 and April 1, 2001
Area 2: Junior Hunt: Saturday/Sunday, April 7 and 8, 2001

Drawing: All applications must be received in the Yountville Regional Office by 5 p.m. on Thursday March 1, 2001. The drawing to be held on Friday, March 2, 2001.Applications: Applicants may apply for only one hunt day in each season.
