Hunting Memories

North Dakota Elk Hunt

It was September 17, 2000, and 90+ degrees. My guide, from Cedar Creek Elk Ranch, took me for my first day of elk hunting. All the elk were bedded down early due to the extreme heat but I was assured that we could use this to our advantage. After spotting and attempting several stalks, I was able to get within bow range of this beautiful 5-point bull at 9:15 a.m. I was fortunate enough to take this bull scoring 289 Pope and Young points, with my XI compound bow at 50 yards. This was my first elk, and what an amazing experience it was.
