Pheasant Hunting Clinic
for Women
Two classes are being offered for women who want to obtain a hunting license and/or learn pheasant hunting skills, the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) announced. For those women who want to get their hunting license, the DFG's Game Bird Heritage and Hunter Education Programs are sponsoring a hunter education class for women.

Successful completion of a hunter education course is required for a California hunting license. Parent/child participation is welcomed. The two-day hunter education class will be held October 14 and 15 at the Yolo Sportsmens Association in Woodland. The course includes 10 hours of classroom instruction on firearms, hunter ethics and wildlife management; rifle, handgun and shotgun shooting; and an overview of clothing and equipment needed to get started. The $10 enrollment fee includes a study manual, firearms use and ammunition. Class size is limited to 25, and pre-registration is required. Participants are encouraged to study the manual before the first day of the class.

Women who want to get started hunting pheasants are invited to attend a workshop on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29 at Hastings Island Hunting Preserve near Rio Vista. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Department of Fish and Game's Game Bird Heritage Program, the California Waterfowl Association River City Ladies Committee, Hastings Island Hunting Preserve, and Pheasants Forever.

The program will be presented from a woman's perspective and in a female friendly atmosphere with emphasis on such essential information as hunting gear, networking for future hunting opportunities, and hunting regulations and laws. The first day of instruction includes pheasant hunting methods and techniques, a dog handling demonstration and trap shooting. A pheasant hunt will be held the next day, with trained dogs and shotguns available for loan. A current California hunting license and an Upland Game Bird Stamp are required to participate in the pheasant hunt.

The fee for the pheasant hunting clinic is $30. Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required.
