A Reader's Comments About Possible Mojave Desert Hunting Restrictions

I may live in North Idaho near the Canadian border, but I grew up roaming the Great Mojave Desert country. From shooting chukars and mountain quail at the China Lake Naval Gunnery Range in the 1960s with my dad, to cutting school at Granada Hills High in the San Fernando Valley to go out and collect chuckawallas and sidewinder rattlesnakes near Mojave for spending money, to calling coyotes and bobcats around Palen Pass, and chasing Gambel's Quail in and around all the desert ranges out there, from the Salton Sea to the Colorado River. I still get down there for quail hunting about every other winter while visting my in-laws in the Palm Springs area.

I am not surprised by the Park circus' position. It is no secret that all the extreme enviro wackos and anti US Constitution citizens that have been placed throughout our public agencies by the Clintonistas are very emboldened by the umbrella of protection provided by the fact that the Clintons control two branches of the federal government, both the executive branch and justice departments. And of course the "unofficial" branch of the Clinton government, the mainstream media.

Of course the mantra of the "environmental concerns" is just a cover for the real agenda of eliminating hunting as a valid reason for firearm ownership (2nd amendment be damned) and the long-range goals and visions for the USA of these people.

We deal with it every day here in Idaho with regards to the illegal wolf reintroduction and now the attempt to reintroduce the grizzlies.I dont want to get started 'cuz I will go all week on what is wrong with all of this, and the real agenda behind the concern for the "environment". The undisputed and well-documented fact that Idaho already had wolves and grizzlies does not count in the mindset of these "only we know what's best for you all" leaders of our public agencies.

The wolves are now everywhere in our state. In fact, it has just recently been determined that one of our Idaho wolves swam across the mighty Snake River and is now an Oregon wolf!

But wait you say! They were supposed to stay back in the Frank Church Wilderness on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River!!!! Tell it to the wolf packs.

It is just a matter of time, and a short amount of time at that, before your beleaguered Cal F&G is going to be dealing with them.

I have sent an e-mail supporting Mr. Matthews' comments to the NPS. I don't know that it will do much good, however. When one considers that the NPS has unilaterally succeeded in setting a deadline for running the snowmobiles out of Yellowstone and Clinton (again unilaterally) just increased the size of the no hunting allowed in Craters of the Moon National Monument here in Idaho by 12 fold — to around 1000 SQUARE MILES — one has to sometimes become discouraged.

Hey, keep up the good work that you are doing for all of us that hold to traditional values and beliefs for our nation. It is much bigger than a "save our poor predators in the Mojave" issue.

Eternal vigilance is the price we pay for liberty.

Your online mag may very well be the wave of the future to exercise that vigilance. It is truly a great concept. Even though I get a kick out of the size of most of the "dinks" that are sent in by your readers, by God they are proud and by God they are hunters and I love 'em.

We must surely all hang together, be us bowhunters, muzzleloaders, hound hunters, rifle hunters, falconers, trappers, bear baiters, varmint callers, rockchuck shooters, abalone hunters, pig hunters, deer hunters, duck hunters, band-tailed pigeon hunters, gray squirrel hunters, road hunters, horseback hunters, meat hunters or trophy hunters, or we shall most certainly all hang separately.

Thanks for the recent Alert regarding the Preserve. I sent an e-mail to let them know how I feel. Now, I have to go find my blood pressure medication.
Thanks, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the e-mail alert. I was aware of this months ago and wrote and sent my response to the "park service people".

It is good if hunters get involved and speak up on issues that adversely affect hunting and wildlife in general.

I believe the "park service people" want to revert the East Mojave Preserve back to the way it was hundreds of years ago, period, end of story. They don't care about what hunters or the general public thinks. They believe they and not the public own the national park system, in my opinion.

Thanks again for the e-mail.
