Pheasant Hunt for Women
Applications are currently available for the second annual North Coast Women's Pheasant Hunt to be held on September 9 at the Eel River Wildlife Area, the California Department of Fish and Game said today.

Deadline for submitting an application is noon on August 23. A drawing for the 75 permits will be held August 24, the DFG said.

As it was last year, the hunt is co-sponsored by the Humboldt area chapter of the California Waterfowl Association and Elks Lodge 652.

Interested hunters may obtain applications at the DFG's Eureka office or at any of a number of Humboldt County sporting goods stores. Applicants must possess a valid California hunting license and an upland game bird stamp.

Completed applications must be returned in person or through the mail by August 23 to the DFG's Eureka office. The address is Women's Pheasant Hunt, Department of Fish and Game, 619 Second Street, Eureka, CA 95501.

Fish and Game said the hunt will take place on the Ocean Ranch Unit of the Eel River Wildlife Area. The unit comprises about 1,100 acres north of the mouth of the Eel River.

Last year 48 women participated in the hunt, bagging 78 pheasants. Additional information is available from biologist Mary Kuehner at (707) 441-5788.
