Good News for Idaho
Turkey Hunters
Growth of turkey flocks has so far outpaced the rise in hunter numbers, even with the addition of fall hunting in the last few years.

Proposals for turkey hunting in 2002 are open for public comment now. Open houses have been set for various times and dates in Idaho's seven Fish and Game regions. The individual open house events are announced in local media, or those interested can call their regional offices for information. Written comments can be submitted to Wildlife Bureau, Idaho Dept. of Fish and Game, P.O. Box 25, Boise, Idaho 83707.

No big changes are anticipated for the coming wild turkey seasons except that controlled fall hunting in the Southwest Region could become an unlimited controlled hunt in which no luck of the draw is required. This year, 630 people applied for the 500 permits available for fall hunting in the region.

Interest in turkey hunting has grown in Idaho, following the rapid upswing in turkey populations. The Fish and Game Commission is expected to act on 2002 turkey hunting proposals at its meeting in Boise the last week of November.
