Utah's Buck Permits Sold Out
Lines at most Division of Wildlife Resources offices were shorter than last year and the DWR's Internet Web site was busy as buck deer hunting permits that weren't taken in this year's draws went on sale at 6 a.m. on July 18.

General bull elk permits for this fall's hunts also went on sale July 18.

The 153 Central Region permits that were available sold out by 6:20 a.m. As of 3:15 p.m., 729 general statewide archery, 840 Northeastern Region rifle and muzzleloader, and 310 Northern Region rifle and muzzleloader permits had also been sold.

All of the permits for the Southeastern and Southern regions were allocated through the Big Game Draw this year and were not available on July 18.

Plenty of statewide archery and Northern and Northeastern region rifle and muzzleloader permits remain available for hunters to purchase. The DWR's Internet Web site (www.wildlife.utah.gov) provides resident and nonresident hunters the easiest and most convenient way to buy one. All hunters need is access to the Internet and an American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit card.

Hunters who don't have one of these credit cards can purchase a permit at DWR offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Springville, Vernal, Price or Cedar City, or through the mail by sending an application to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, P.O. Box 168888, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84116-8888. Utah buck deer hunting permits are not available from license agents.

Utah's 2002 general archery buck deer hunting season begins August 17, the state's general muzzleloader buck deer hunting season begins September 25 and the general rifle buck deer hunting season begins October 19.

Utah's general bull elk permits also are available from the DWR's Web site, its six offices, and from more than 230 hunting license agents statewide.

Utah's 2002 general archery elk hunting season begins August 22 and the state's general rifle bull elk hunting season begins October 5.

For more information call the nearest Division of Wildlife Resources office, or the Division's Salt Lake City office at (801) 538-4700.
