Hunting Memories

Best Buck Yet!

This is my best buck yet! I was on a 2002 Utah muzzleloader hunt when I took this big-bodied 4x4 mule deer buck, which had multiple eyeguards. I'm just lucky I got him. I was hunting at 10,000 foot elevation the second day of the southern zone hunt. I stayed up on the mountain all day, not thinking it would get cold. Toward evening I started to shiver. As I was making my way back down the mountain just before dark, I spotted the buck feeding out in the open with two other bucks. He was the biggest so I aimed at him.

My CVA .45 caliber in-line bolt did an awesome job, sending the 225-grain Powerbelt 177 yards to the buck.
