Rabid Bobcat Shot
A bobcat that attacked a camper and threatened occupants of a building on Mingus Mountain was shot and killed by an Arizona Game and Fish Department wildlife manager on June 30, 2003.

The bobcat tested positive for rabies. "There's really no other solution when encountering a rabid animal," says Region III supervisor Bob Posey. "It was quite obvious this bobcat was not acting normal. In situations such as this, public safety becomes a big issue. Luckily, nobody was injured." Rabies is easily transmissible to humans and is fatal if treatment is not received immediately.

When encountering wildlife, keep your distance and never touch the animals. If an animal's behavior seems abnormal, contact the Game and Fish Department immediately.
