Hunting Memories

Hunting with a Veteran on a Day to Remember Veterans

This 200+ pound black boar was harvested by Brad Beaver at 6 a.m. on May 26, 2003 (Memorial Day) while hunting with his father, Gene Beaver. The location was a Wilderness Unlimited ranch located in Northern California.

This was the third day of our hunt without seeing any other pigs and very little sign of pig activity. It was also the first cool day of the hunt. The temperature on the previous days had been in the mid-90s. The ranch had water available everywhere, so animals could find water all over the ranch. We just happened to catch this boar in the open, headed someplace to bed for the day.

This was a great hunt for this old veteran. Brad had recently returned from an extended stay in Guam as a member of a disaster recovery team. He works for The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and helped with the recovery after a disastrous typhoon that hit the Island of Guam. He was happy to get this chance to hunt since he had missed both the fall and winter hunts because of his duties. I as his father, was happy to get a chance to hunt with him. Wilderness Unlimited provided the chance for us to hunt together.

SALUTES !!!

Gene Beaver
