$1,000,000 for California Projects
The California Waterfowl Assocation (CWA) recently received word from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) that the North American Wetland Conservation Act (NAWCA) will be funding the $1 million dollar grant proposal submitted by CWA in March 2003.

The proposal contains 35 projects that include 28 private duck clubs, four state and three federal projects, all within the northern Sacramento Valley.

The grant will protect, restore, and enhance 10,503 acres of seasonal wetland, riparian forested wetland, and associated upland habitats. Under the proposal, 3,485 acres will be protected by conservation easements; 2,122 acres of wetland, riparian, and upland habitat will be restored; and 5,854 acres of these same habitat types will be enhanced.

Planning will begin soon and permits will be acquired to assure that construction of these projects can begin in May 2004.

CWA partners who are participating in this proposal and who have made this grant possible are California Wildlife Conservation Board, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, USFWS, Natural Resources Conservation Service, California Department of Fish and Game, and 28 different landowners.
