Hunting Memories

Silent Gobbler

Bud Neville, of Foresthill, California, was hunting for a gobbler on the Clarke Ranch in northwestern California (a Wilderness Unlimited property), when he bumped a flock of turkeys on a morning hunt. The gobblers had been silent so Neville decided not to use his call and instead just worked into a position in hopes of getting close enough. After seeing some turkeys work their way back out of the trees to feed in the field, Neville moved in and this gobbler made the mistake of getting too close. Touching off a Winchester Supreme High Velocity Turkey load, Neville collected his first turkey which sported an 8 1/2-inch beard.
