Arnold Giveth and He Taketh Away
The good news is California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed two anti-hunter/anti-gun bills, SB 1140 (increased penalities for you if someone wrongly uses your gun) and SB 1152 (thumbprint when buying ammo). The bad news is that he signed SB 50 (classifying the .50 caliber rifle as an assault weapon).

In an interview on September 17 on KFBK radio, Governor Schwarzenegger said the reason he signed the bill was because you could use one of these rifles to shoot an apple off of someone's head from a distance of 1 1/2 miles. He said he wanted to protect us from terriorism.

He got good advice on SB 1140 and SB 1152. The advice on SB 50, however, must have been that he wouldn't lose that many votes if he signed that bill.

Hunters' calls, letters and e-mails are of value. They helped in two-out-of-three cases this time.
