Hunting Memories

Miss Proves Fortunate

This is a picture of the beautiful 4x4 mule deer buck I shot in X6b during the 2004 rifle season. By looking at the teeth on his lower jaw, I estimated his age to be 4.5 years old. He was in prime condition with an inch of fat along his backstrap. I don't own a scale to get the hanging weight, but after butchering him I got 78 pounds of boneless meat, which by my calculation puts this animal at about 198 pounds field dressed (using 40% of hanging weight as the average conversion to table fare). Boy, am I now glad I missed a smaller 3x3 earlier in the season.
